On June 6, 2003 I was reading my daily e-newsletter and Pope John Paul the Great was in Dubrovnik, Croatia and was doing a Beatification for a Croatian nun named Maria Petkovic of Christ Crucified who founded the congregation for the Daughters of Mercy, a group of Franciscan Nuns.   In the ceremony, he commended her for her "feminine genius" in the founding of orphanages and charitable centers across Croatia and South America.

In a supplementary story along with the beatification, there was a second article about the miracle that was accepted in 2002 for her beatification. It involved the closing of a hatch (the forward-torpedo-room hatch to be exact) by a lieutenant named Roger Cotrina Alvarado. The headline of the article said "Peruvian Officer Prayed -- and Then Did the "Humanly Impossible. "  So I read to the end of the story and then I read it again and I thought to myself ................... THIS IS AWESOME !!

I continued to happily remember this story from time to time and even printed out the original ZENIT article and   showed it to a few people and talked about it until one night when I was in front of the Blessed Sacrament in eucharistic-adoration at my parish, I had the idea to do the  website you are now surfing.  And while I was thinking of this, I had the idea to do a radio commercial for this website.

Since I wanted this to be an "inspirational" website, I needed an inspirational message and being an engineer, I could not help but think that the "techno-miracle" of the Pacocha was a SPLENDID story with which to do it.  But being relatively ignorant of submarines in general, I set out to do more research.
